The Top Swimsuit Trends of 2023

Looking for the perfect swimsuit to hit the beach in while the weather is hot? These are the top swimsuit trends to know for summer 2023.

Do you need some vitamin D? Whether you’re heading to the pool, to the lake, or to the ocean – you’ll need a rockin swimsuit to show off your swimsuit body.

And if you don’t think you have a swimsuit body, just put a swimsuit on your body and bam(!) you have one now.

But which swimsuit should you put on? Read our swimsuit trends for 2023 to find out.

Delicate Floral Patterns

Think back to when we all had wallpaper in our rooms, or at least in one room in our homes. A lot of it had simple florals, either as the main pattern or with stripes going through it.

Those are the kind of delicate floral patterns you’re looking for if you want to rock this trend. The shape of your suit doesn’t really matter.

Bikini’s are a little harder to rock with this trend, as the mid-sized floral patterns get broken up between the pieces. But you can absolutely do it if that doesn’t bother you.

Tankinis, one piece, and even cutouts (see the next section) are all good ways to wear this trend.

Color-wise you want to look for pastels and … natural floral colors. The base of the swimsuit should be rather pale, to let the vibrancy of the flowers come through.

Our Pick: We love this suit that balances the delicate floral with a little bit of sex appeal. The plunging neckline gives some skin but the ruffles around it keep you from overflowing. You can find it for under $50 from ASOS.

Accessorize these delicate suits with a neutral color floppy hat and some strappy sandals. Add classic cat-eye shades and you’re ready to go.

Cutout Suits

Cutouts have gone in and out just about every year. If you have one from a past year, it’s time to break it out again.

If you don’t, there are plenty of cute ones on the market right now. You can find these suits in pretty much any pattern or cut out – it just depends on what part of your body you want to show.

For example, side cutouts are common for those of us that have that little lower belly pouch, that we can’t seem to ever get rid of.

But if that doesn’t bother you or you have a flat stomach, get one that shows off your hard work. In fact, this suit combines both the delicate floral trend and the cutout trend. Its cutout goes from belly button to the center of the chest bone, in a diamond cutout pattern.

That’s not necessarily our favorite, as it shows a little too much of our insecurities. If we had to pick a favorite, it’d be this suit from model Ashley Graham.

It’s called the Swimsuits for All Retro Crinkle One-Piece Swimsuit. It has a cute high v crotch, and a rounded neckline. The cutouts are to the side, from the high-hip to right under the underarm.

It leaves about a three by four inch square of skin showing on the side of the body.

Rainbow/Pride Stripes

Another big trend this year? Rainbow stripes. If you can order one in time, June is national pride month. That means all things rainbow aren’t only in – they show your support to the LGBTQ+ people in your life.

You don’t have to connect the rainbow trend and the rainbow pride, but if you’re an ally, let your stripes show!

The trend is in both horizontal and vertical stripes, though we’ve seen more of the latter. The vertical stripes look very slimming if that’s something you want.

High-V crotch lines are a good match with that style. If you like to show off skin, wear a rainbow vertical striped one piece that lays high on the hip.

Our Pick is this & Other Stories Rainbow Stripe Swimsuit with a cute belt. If you’re not into the belt, it’s detachable.

Shoulder Details

Another trend that’s in right now is simple or understated suits with detail on the shoulders.

This could be just about anything, from ruffles, to tie details, to crocheted straps.

If you have smaller breasts and you want to add some volume to your top half, look for wider ruffles. You can find some that almost cover the top part of your shoulders. It won’t make your breasts look bigger, but it can make you look more proportionate.

Our Fave(s): We couldn’t choose between a crocheted shoulder strap suit and the wide-ruffle suit we mentioned above. Both are our favorites, for different body types!

Suits with High Coverage

It’s 2023. If you don’t put on sunscreen every day as part of your makeup routine, what are you doing? Not only is sun damage a good way to get skin cancer, but it deepens wrinkles and creates sunspots.

Sometimes, sleeves with more coverage are called rash guards, as people use them to surf.

The more skin your swimsuit covers, the less likely you are to get a sunburn there. They’re also great styles to wear if you’re in the pool around children, yours or otherwise. Kids are famous for grabbing onto any part of your body they can reach, and it often turns out to be the top of your suit.

Our Choice: since Gingham is already in, we like this long sleeve gingham piece by Marysia North.

2023 Swimsuit Trends

If you’re looking to buy a suit just for this season, you can’t go wrong with the picks on this list. If you want something that’s going to last a couple of summers – you can still get the trends on this list, but in more classic colors.

A black cut-out suit is always in, as is a one piece with tie-detail shoulders.

Swimsuit trends come and go, but your style will always stay the same.
