Here Are 15 Things to Do Before 30
There are a number of different things to focus on when navigating through your 20s. It’s vital to remember that, while your career is hugely important, it’s only one facet of your life. In addition to career goals, you should be focusing on social and personal goals as well.
1. Start Saving for Retirement
One of the biggest mistakes that twentysomethings make is failing to start a retirement fund. By failing to do so, they miss out on thousands upon thousands of dollars, all of which could be beneficial when finally deciding to leave the workforce for good.
Fear not, however. As long as you start saving by the time you’re 30, you should be able to accumulate enough money to retire comfortably.
2. Learn to Cook
You can’t eat fast food and processed garbage forever. At some point, you need to learn how to cook for yourself. While you’re advised to start sooner rather than later, it would be reasonable to set 30 as a deadline.
3. Travel Abroad
While you can certainly travel later in life, there’s something about traveling in your 20s that’s special. You’re unjaded, you’re energetic, and you’re passionate about the world you live in. Traveling abroad, experiencing new cultures, and seeing things you’ve never seen before will keep your fire for life burning, fueling you through your 30s and beyond.
4. Build Credit
In the modern world, a person’s credit is vital. Good credit allows you to buy a house, take out a loan, buy a car, and make a variety of other transactions.
If you haven’t started building your credit yet, you need to get started right away. Apply for a credit card, make regular purchases, and — above all — make sure to pay those purchases off in a timely manner.
5. Shake Your Bad Habits
Every human being has bad habits. However, that doesn’t mean that every human being has to go on with his or her bad habits. Bad habits can be corrected, it just takes a little time and effort.
Quit smoking, stop talking over people, cease your reckless spending, etc. Be conscious about your poor qualities, and strive to eliminate them.
6. Learn a New Language
As time passes, the need to know more than one language becomes more and more important. As such, you should consider picking up a new language before you hit the age of 30. Some languages to consider include Spanish, Chinese, French, and Japanese.
7. Reach a Big Fitness Goal
Physical exercise is a vital part of every human’s well-being. If you’re not exercising regularly, you’re doing a disservice to yourself.
Looking for a good way to encourage exercise? Why not strive to reach a big fitness goal?
You could run a half-marathon, participate in a decathlon, train for your city’s amateur tennis tournament, or take part in some other type of event. The key is to push yourself physically.
8. Let Go of the Past
Regret is a normal component of the human mindset. The problem with regret, however, is that it breeds negativity, the type of negativity that you shouldn’t bring with you past the age of 30.
See a therapist, take up yoga, go for long walks through the woods. Whatever it takes, find a way to let go of your regret.
9. Establish a Reading List
Hoping to start reading more than you have in the past? Establish a reading list of books you’d like to read so that you have some literature to look forward to.
10. Take a Cross-Country Road Trip
The United States is a beautiful, sprawling country which most aren’t able to see in its entirety. Don’t be one of these people. Take a cross-country road trip so that you can get a feel for everything America has to offer.
11. Kick Social Media to the Curb
Social media has its place. However, for many of us, it’s nothing more than a time waster. For this reason, before you hit 30, you’re advised to kick it to the curb.
12. Learn Your Family History
Too few people have a grasp on their family history. Unfortunately, by the time they become interested in it, their oldest relatives have passed on.
Don’t make this mistake. Inquire about your family’s history now so that you have it for the future.
13. Say Goodbye to Your Debt
There is good and bad debt. Good debt includes college loans, mortgages, and car loans. Bad debt includes personal loans and credit cards.
Before you hit the age 30, you’re advised to do away with all of your bad debt. After all, you don’t want compounding interest to inhibit your spending ability.
14. Start Giving to Charity
There’s never a bad time to start giving to charitable causes. However, 30 is as good a deadline as ever. Start giving now, and you’ll establish a charitable spirit to carry you through the rest of your life.
15. Hone Your Organizational Skills
Some people are organized. Some people are a mess. If you’re in the latter group, you need to start honing your organizational skills. While disorganization might be sustainable through one’s 20s, it’s likely to falter over the long-term.
Create a budget, keep your residence tidy, and get all your ducks in a row. The responsibilities of life are only going to become more substantial from here.
